Immigrants

Perhaps no area of current debates is more full of “alternate facts” than questions regarding immigrants. The facts are pretty clear. They commit fewer crimes and work harder than native born citizens.

Here is an unexpected consequence of anti-immigrant rhetoric and the fear it can spur. Immigrants (documented and undocumented) count on the Census. The census count determines federal aid to a state. If people are afraid to fill out the census form, the state loses money.
